Final Exam
We will be starting review this week for the exam. A note will sent home with your student explaining the format of the review. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Final Religion Assignment
When you are done writing out the information from each religion look at the Basic Beliefs, Values, and Golden Rule(s) of the different religions. Look for similarities and differences between them. Write at least 1 paragraphs for each section. Different texts and dates to not count for this assignment.

We WILL still have our test tomorrow (Friday April 20th) for both grade 7 classes. The review is on the blog, I passed the same information out to the class yesterday and we went through it. Again, BOTH CLASSES WILL HAVE THEIR TEST TOMORROW AS PLANNED.

Review for chapter 7
Terms:
Delegates: are people who are chosen to go to meetings on the behalf of others.
Confederation: is a union.
Resolution: is a formal decision made by a group.
Federal System of Government: is one central government that is in charge of the whole country.
Referendum: in a referendum, the people give their opinion directly on a certain matter by voting.
Ridings: a particular area of land that includes certain communities.
Review when and where confederation took place and who was involved.
Know the reason for and against confederation for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and the Provinces of Canada.
What happened in Charlottetown?
Review the blue box on page 122 to become familiar with the resolutions about confederation.
Refer to pages 126-129 to develop an understanding about how the people of the colonies responded to the idea of confederation.
How were cartoons and newspapers used during confederation?
Be aware of the events that happen to some of the colonies that may have changed their opinion about confederation. (look at #1 on page 133, we did this during class)
Looking at government today, know how the responsibilities are distributed and shared between the federal and provincial government.

We're up and running again :D
During the break of communication the grade 7s have been learning about the development of government in Canada. We've discussed what it would be like to not have a say in how they lived verses being able to have the freedom to and right to choose how they would live. We’ve also discussed having different perspectives on a topic; using the schools no cell policy as an example for students to discuss both sides of the issue.
As we near the end of the chapter I have assigned a research paper. Your student has chosen a Canadian politician and will write about their back ground and their contribution to Canada’s political history. I have included a copy of the assignment in this post.
While students are writing their essays we will continue on with the Confederation of Canada.

Unit Three: Towards Confederation Assignment
Assignment Description:
- Students will select a notable Canadian politician from the list below, prepare a one-two page written report that will be orally presented to the class.
Logistics:
- Some class time will be provide for library/internet research and writing the assignment. `
- The assignment will be due two weeks after it has been assigned. Students are
encouraged to record the due date.
- Students who complete their written essay before the scheduled due date may elect to
present to the class in advance.
Written Essay:
- The essay must provide background information on the person and concentrate mostly on the person’s significant contribution to Canada’s rich political history.
- A picture of the politician should be attached to the assignment
- An important quote from the politician will add to the assignment.
- Proper conventions of essay writing must be followed. Proper grammar, diction, spelling,
organization, sentence structure, punctuation, presentation, etc is important.
- All assignments must be typed using 12 size, Time Roman font.
- A title page is required.
Oral Report:
- The report should be no more than five minutes in length.
- Students are encouraged not to read directly from their written assignment, but rather prepare as if they were participating in a public speaking activity. (Q-cards)
- A podium will be set-up for the oral presentation.

Happy New Year
It's a little late but Happy New Year :D
We are finishing up with the Real Game by the end of the month. This has taught your grade 7 student about budgeting and where the money goes through out the month. For most students this was very eye opening :)
Marking for this has been through out the game. Students have completed work sheets, in class assignments, quizzes, and a self and peer assessment. They have also been marked on group and class participation.
If any student is at risk of a failing mark they will be notified shortly.
